Another new face: Aaron Lucero!

SACC is so pleased to welcome Aaron Lucero to our exceptional roster of singers.  Aaron will be joining us on our The Mystery of Christmas concert on Dec. 16 and 17!

Tell us about yourself, Aaron!
I grew up in Rowlett, Texas which is a suburb in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. I've been singing for as long as I can remember but officially started choral singing in 7th grade. My love for choir grew further during my time at Garland High School singing under the direction of Cheryl Wilson. I attended Texas Tech University where I received bachelors degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education along with a minor in Italian.  I currently live with my partner in downtown Dallas in the Farmers Market and work at Newman Smith High School as the director of choirs. I am also the Director of Music at Community Christian Church in Richardson, Texas and Assistant Director for the Youth Chorus of Greater Dallas.  I've performed with Dallas-based Orpheus Chamber Singers in the past and am currently singing Highland Park Chorale.

This will be my first season with SACC. I'm so excited to be singing with a wonderful group and especially grateful to sing under the direction of Rick Bjella again.

If you could be any other vocal part, which part would you be?
Soprano of course!

What's your favorite choral piece to sing or the most influential piece to you?
The Awakening by Joseph Martin and There Will Be Rest by Frank Ticheli--I remember doing these songs in high school as a sophomore and they had a huge impact on me because I realized how powerful music can be, even to a 15-year-old boy.

Who is your composer crush?
Currently, Daniel Elder. I love his music!

What's the most valuable lesson you ever learned in voice lessons or choir?
Change! Music is all about change!

What's you proudest singing moment?
Singing at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Rick Bjella.

What's your favorite guilty musical pleasure?
Listening to EDM

Aaron, are you in there?
What's your dream choral piece you've been dying to perform?
Carmina Burana

Do you play any other instruments?
I can fumble around on the piano...

What's your favorite holiday carol?
Fum, Fum, Fum

What's your favorite musical tradition?
Not really a tradition, but I love when I'm with fellow choir nerds and we decide to bust out some choral singing in random locations.

Westminster Abbey

What's your dream venue to perform at?
Westminster Abbey

Are there any choral pieces everyone seems to love but you can't stand?
Anything with Sprechstimme!

If you love Aaron and want to support his singing endeavors, please consider donating to the San Antonio Chamber Choir so that we can continue to provide San Antonio and South Texas with performances of the finest choral music featuring Aaron and all our extremely talented singers!  For a limited time, those who make a donation of $100 or more to SACC will receive a free copy of SACC's newest recording, Unfrozen: Christmas in the Baltics, a beautiful album of Christmas and solstice music from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia now available on iTunes!  It makes a perfect holiday gift for the classical music lover in your life!

Don't forget to see Aaron in person on December 16 and 17 for our The Mystery of Christmas concert!  This event celebrates 100 years of recorded jazz and 1,000 years of choral music in a combined concert with special guests, the Jazz Protagonists.  Also featured will be the North East School of the Arts Dancers and the Clark High School Choir.
